The Mission

Our mission is to offer African American high school girls' access to the skills and experiences needed to surmount the educational and economic barriers in their immediate lives and grow to become socially just adult leaders who create change in the world.

The Vision & Programs

Our vision is to provide girls of color with opportunities today to help them accomplish their dreams tomorrow

We provide the following core programs:

1. A 4 week, intensive summer camp that focuses on leadership, journalism and technology.

2. Abbreviated social justice leadership technology camps during winter, fall, and spring break.

3. Paid summer internship that focuses on leadership, entrepreneurship, and 21st century skills development.

4. Part time employment opportunities for girls who graduate from our programs and come back as mentors and peer leaders.

We understand that youth development is not complete unless it is well-rounded and holistic. Our carefully planned curriculums allow girls to emerge from BHBD experiences with enhanced academic, personal, and leadership awareness.

We Believe

  • Community and affirmation are essential to our growth.

  • That learning happens when we leave our comfort zones.

  • Success does not have to exist in a cultural vacuum.

  • In helping girls love and embrace their authentic selves.

  • In the wisdom that comes from grandmother, mothers, girlfriends, and sister circles.

  • That we are the ones that we have been waiting for.
