What We Do
Big Hair, Bigger Dreams is a multi-year program that is designed for girls from the ages of 13-18 who are enrolled in school and aspire to fulfill their potential but may not have the immediate resources to actualize those dreams. We utilize experiential instruction in order to enhance academic, problem solving, critical thinking, and leadership skills. Our target demographic are girls that come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
What Drives What We Do?
According to the Women's Foundation of Colorado in 2015:
-
This year alone, nearly 4,600 girls will drop out of Colorado high schools
-
More than 580,000 women live at or near poverty in Colorado
-
At just over $26,000, single mothers have the lowest median income of all family types
-
Women working full-time earn a median annual salary of $40,000 compared to $50,000 for men
-
Average annual fees for child care range from $7,000 to $12,000 for full-time care, up to 48% of a single mother’s median salary
