Upcomming Camps

This camp is offered in partnership with CompuGirls and Volunteers of America. It combines leadership, technology, and civic engagement. Girls learn how to be community leaders by researching and helping to address a specific issue, homelessness. Participants volunteer at a shelter, create a website, and make a movie about their experience learning about and addressing the issue of homelessness.This camp runs from June 4-June 11th. Tuition is $25, and lunches and t-shirts are included. To learn more about his camp please click here.

  • Summer STEM and Journalism Camp

Our Journalism and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) camp is offered in partnership with the Denver Urban Spectrum, CompuGirls, the JEKL Foundation, and Tech For All. Girls learn how to publish their own newspaper, are introduced to engineering from professional women engineers, and learn how to work with computer hardware. Participants will learn how to sell advertising space in a newspapers and can earn a comission. Participants will also take field trips, including to the Cheyenne Frontier Days. Please note the dates for this camp have changed slightly. This camp runs July 11-July 29th. Tuition is $100, and lunches, field trips, and t-shirts are included.   Graduates of this camp will recieve 15 copies of the newspaper to distribute to family and friends.   • Summer Health and Wellness Camp

The wellness camp combines physical fitness, healthy eating, and a social justice leadership topic on a health-related issue. Camp participants learn how to incorporate fitness routines and affordable healthy eating into their everyday lives. Additionally, girls are taught how to be community leaders. Please note the dates for this camp have changed slightly. This camp runs from June 13-July 1st. Graduates earn a free fitness pack. Tuition is $100, and lunches and t-shirts are included.   • Paid Internships

This internship is offered in partnership with the City of Denver Youth Summer Employment Program. Interns support Big Hair, Bigger Dreams (BHBD) by learning how to fund-raise and manage projects. Interns are also part of the Dream Websites Program, which provides low-cost, professional-quality websites for individuals, community organizations, and small businesses. In order to participate in the paid internship, girls must come from low- to moderate-income households. The Internship runs from June through July. There is no cost to participate; however, interns are responsible for providing their own lunches.  In order to be eligible for the internship, girls must be a Denver resident, and meet the income guidelines of the City of Denver Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). Please review all of the criteria of the SYEP criteria here. Once reviewing the SYEP guidlines and are certain that you qualify please email ginnie@bighairbiggerdreams.org to notify us of your interest and we will provide next steps. The application deadline is May 12th
